Der italienische Künstler Lorenzo Quinn ist aktuell einer der herausragendsten zeitgenössischen Bildhauer. Sein Werk ist inspiriert von großen Meistern wie Michelangelo, Bernini und Rodin. International ausgestellt vermitteln sowohl seine monumentalen, im öffentlichen Raum gezeigten Kunstwerke als auch kleinere, intimere Arbeiten seine Leidenschaft für unvergängliche Werte und authentische Emotionen. Bekanntheitsgrad erlangte er vor allem durch seine ausdrucksstarken Schöpfungen menschlicher Hände. „Ich wollte den als am schwierigsten erachteten Teil des menschlichen Körpers und die somit größte technische Herausforderung modellieren“, erklärt der Künstler. „Die Hand verfügt über eine immense Macht – die Macht zu lieben, zu hassen, zu schaffen, zu zerstören.“

 

Geboren 1966 in Rom als Sohn des mexikanischen Schauspielers Anthony Quinn und dessen zweiter Ehefrau Yolanda Addoloi.

 

Kunststudium an der Amerikanischen Akademie der Schönen Künste in New York.

 

1988 heiratet er Giovanna Cicutto. Nach der Geburt seiner drei Kinder verließ das Paar New York und ließ sich in Spanien nieder.

 

Die Arbeiten Quinns befinden sich in Privatsammlungen weltweit und sind während der vergangenen 20 Jahre international ausgestellt worden. Das für die Vereinten Nationen gefertigte Auftragswerk „The Tree of Life“ wurde von der Organisation 1993 als Briefmarke herausgegeben. Im darauf folgenden Jahr fertigte er im Auftrag des Vatikan und im Gedenken an die 800jährige Wiederkehr der Geburt die Skulptur des Heiligen Antonio für die Basilika des Heiligen in Padua. Die Figur wurde vom Papst in Anwesenheit von 35.000 Menschen gesegnet.

 

Die von ihm geschaffene Kunst im öffentlichen Raum beinhaltet „Encounters“, ausgestellt im Museum für Moderne Kunst Palma de Mallorca, „The Tree of Life“ in der Kirche Sankt Martin in Birmingham, „Creation“, „Volare“ und „Crossing a Millenium“ an den Landungsbrücken von König Edward. „Rise Though Education“ und „Reaching for Gold“ wurden 2005 am ASPIRE Exzellenzzentrum für Sport in Doha, Katar installiert.

 

Die Historikerin Consuelo Císcas Casaban beschreibt die Arbeit Quinns als „tiefgründig, spirituell und existenziell, da diese Leidenschaften behandelt, welche wir als menschliche Wesen erfahren sowie Fragen über die absolute Wahrheit aufwirft, die wir uns stillschweigend stellen...Es handelt sich um Skulpturen, die auf den großen Mythen beruhen und welche sich auf die unvergänglichen und immer wiederkehrenden Themen unserer Zivilisation beziehen, die die Unterschiede von Kultur und Zeit verschwinden lassen.

Contemporary Italian artist Lorenzo Quinn is a leading figurative sculptor whose work is inspired by such masters as Michelangelo, Bernini and Rodin. Exhibited internationally, his monumental public art and smaller, more intimate pieces transmit his passion for eternal values and authentic emotions. He is best known for expressive recreations of human hands. "I wanted to sculpt what is considered the hardest and most technically challenging part of the human body", he asserts. "The hand holds so much power -the power to love, to hate, to create, to destroy."

Studies at the American Academy of Fine Arts in New York.

 

1988 - marries Giovanna Cicutto, and on the birth of the first of their three sons, the couple decides to leave New York and settle in Spain

 

 

Quinn's work appears in many private collections throughout the world and has been exhibited internationally during the past 20 years. Among his commissions is "The Tree of Life", produced for the United Nations and issued by the organization as a stamp in 1993. The following year the Vatican engaged him to sculpt the likeness of St. Anthony for the Basilica del Santo in Padua, in commemoration of the 800th anniversary of the saint´s birth.; the sculpture was blessed by the pope, in Rome, in front of a crowd of 35,000.

 

Quinn's public art includes "Encounters" at the Museum of Modern Art in Palma de Mallorca, Spain, "The Tree of Life" in St. Martin's Church in Birmingham, "Creation", "Volare" and "Crossing a Millennium" at King's Edward's Wharf. "Rise Though Education" and "Reaching for Gold" were installed in 2005 at ASPIRE, The Academy of Sports Excellence in Doha (Qatar)

 

Art historian and curator Consuelo Císcar Casaban describes Quinn's work as "profound, spiritual and existential because it deals with the passions we experience as humans and the questions we pose in the silence about ultimate truth… These are sculptures based on great myths, referring to the abroad themes that recur in our civilization and cut across distinctions of culture and time."
