Rosalie was born in 1953 (Stuttgart/Germany)

Studies in German literature and art history at the University of Stuttgart. Painting, drawing, sculptural works, stage design at the State Academy of Art and Design Stuttgart. Freelance artist since 1979. Numerous exhibitions in galleries and museums (among others ……Komm lieber Mai und mache… / Galerie der Stadt Stuttgart, 1989; in the Garden of Dandelions / Kunsthalle Göppingen, 1998; Im Gewitter der Rosen / Grassi-Museum Leipzig 2002), as well as Art Basel, Art Cologne, Art Frankfurt. In addition, the artist produced large-scale projects for public spaces (among others Curtain / Residenzschloss Ludwigsburg 1997; 31xFlossi /ensemble of sculptures, Medienhafen Düsseldorf 2002; Farben-Kreisel / Stuttgart Gropiusplatz 2002; Wo Dein sanfter Flügel weilt, Nuremberg 2006).

Rosalie is also internationally known for her work in theatre. The artist is engaged throughout Europe by leading theatres and opera houses. Of especial importance for the aesthetics of the stage and costume designer are her formative creations for Wagner’s The Ring of the Nibelung (Bayreuth Festival Hall 1994-98). A further, essential aspect of her work are the particular productions in the field of contemporary music, namely, the completely new forms that open up in the interplay of rhythm, colour and light from the point of view of an experimental synthesis of arts.

Taken as a whole, rosalie’s artistic work is marked by aspects of an innovative transgression of limits. This is manifested, last but not least, in the spectacular light installations “HELIOS” and “SÉRAPHIN_Extended”, at the ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe, which are on permanent exhibition there. On the occasion of the 3rd International Biennale for Contemporary Art (BIACS) rosalie realised a comprehensive new version of “HELIOS” in Seville – Das träumende Licht. Finally, a further project, as part of a future, pioneering work in progress, will be her light installation “HYPERION” – a composed instrument made of light – to be seen at the ZKM Karlsruhe, from the 24th October, 2008. rosalie has held a professorship at the HfG Offenbach / Academy of Art & Design, near Frankfurt Main, since 1995. For her complete works of art, rosalie is set to receive the European Culture Prize awarded by the cultural foundation “Pro Europa” in the autumn of this year.
